The Costa del Sol town of Torremolinos is set to see its biggest change since the 1960s, following an ambitious project to make the Plaza Costa del Sol and the Avenida Palma de Mallorca a pedestrian-only zone.

Overseen by architect, Salvador Moreno Peralta, the idea was to create a spacious boulevard that focuses on the strong link between the town and the sea.

The Plaza Costa del Sol and the Avenida Palma de Mallorca have been transformed into a spacious boulevard that focuses on the strong link between Torremolinos and water.
Costing 3 million euros and covering 10,000 square metres, the area has been transformed with bronze statues, water features and shaded seating areas.

Renovations to the Barrabino mansion to turn it into an exhibition centre are still on-going with the plan to open up the grounds in order to give the public easy access to the town’s new gourmet market in the Plaza de Independencia.

Despite adhering to a strict work schedule local businesses in the area will be pleased when the work is completed and see the project as the rebirth of Torremolinos which will be an asset for both them and the many tourists that visit the area.
